Orchard Mist
‘Somerset Pimms’

Slice some soft fruit (raspberries/strawberries) and add a generous glug of Kingston Black Aperitif in a tall glass. Add the same amount of our farm-pressed apple juice. Fill with top quality lemonade and a handful of ice. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint a slice of lemon.

Temperley Sour

Julian’s favourite. Fill a tall glass halfway with ice. Add 50cl 5 year brandy and the same amount of Bramley apple juice. Squeeze in the juice of half a lemon, garnish with lemon rind peel.

Somerset Mojito

Our Somerset take on a classic. Our Apple Eau de Vie, fresh mint finely chopped, crushed ice,  fresh lime juice, cane sugar, sliced lime and apple juice.

The Somerset Donkey

Fill a tall glass with ice. Pour in 60ml Somerset Cider Brandy and top up with ginger ale. Add a dash of Angostura bitters and stir. Garnish with a twist of lemon.

The Savoy’s Apple Jack Rabbit

This recipe is from a Savoy cocktail book from 1930. We’ve made it using apple forward 3 Year Old Cider Brandy, fresh lemon juice, fresh orange juice and maple syrup.

Somerset Cider Brandy 3 Year Old - 45ml
Orange Juice (freshly squeezed) - 20ml
Lemon Juice (freshly squeezed) - 15ml
Maple Syrup - 15ml

Stir over ice and serve.

Old Fashioned Breakfast

A twist on a classic. Shake or stir thoroughly to ensure the marmalade is mixed in.

Somerset Cider Brandy 5 Year Old - 50ml
Orange Marmalade - 50ml
Earl Grey Tea - 25ml
Angostura Bitters - 3 dashes

Chill, and serve over ice.

Rosemary’s Kiss

This fruity, luscious cocktail is a sweet celebration of an English orchard and is reminiscent of a manhattan.

Somerset Cider Brandy 5 Year Old - 40ml
Somerset Morello Cherry Eau De Vie - 40ml
Somerset Pomona - 40ml
Rosemary Syrup - 15ml

Stir over ice and serve.

A roaring fire in a glass with our latest experiment; Eau De Vie finished in casks toasted with apple pomace, which forms the heart of this cocktail.

Smoked Eau De Vie - 25ml
Somerset Cider Brandy 5 Year Old - 25ml
Ginger Syrup - 25ml
Lapsang Souchong - 25ml

Chill, and serve over ice.

25 ml Somerset Cider Brandy, 15 ml orange peel infused vodka, tablespoon lemon juice, teaspoon orange juice, shake over ice, strain and twist orange peel, 3 drops of orange bitters.

Temperley Mojito Tea

40ml Somerset Cider Brandy (Strangeway uses the three-year old), 40ml chilled peppermint tea, 40ml Burrow Hill apple juice, 20ml lime juice, 20ml Bramley apple syrup. Method: Stir on rock ice in a highball glass and top with soda. Garnish with a mint sprig and lime wedge.

The Ethicurean's Somerset Royale  (The Guardian)

40ml sweet vermouth, 25ml Somerset cider brandy, 12.5ml sloe gin, 12.5ml Kahlua.

Combine all the ingredients in a small jug or mixing glass, add ice and stir. Strain into two small chilled glasses, find a quiet room and sip.

Somerset Martini

20 ml Blackcurrant liqueur

40 ml apple eau de vie

20 ml pineapple juice

5ml fresh lemon juice

Pour all ingredients together into a shaker. Shake and filter and garnish.

The Apple Sunrise

A colourful and sweet-yet-tart drink. Into a chilled Collins glass add, one after the other

3–4 dashes of fresh lemon juice

10ml Blackcurrant Liqueur

50ml Somerset Cider Brandy

75ml orange juice

Stir VERY gently if you want the colours to remain distinct, serve.

Hix’s Harry Black

35 ml 5 year old Somerset Cider Brandy

The juice of half a lemon

3 cubes of ice,

A splash of blackcurrant liqueur

Top with lemonade

Stir together, garnish and serve. A refreshing tonic from the Hix team.

A Classic Kir Royale

25ml Blackcurrant Liqueur

100ml Sparkling wine or Champagne

The Kir dates back to Paris in 1904 and has been a firm favourite ever since. Kir can be made with still or sparkling wine. Chill the ingredients and the glass. Pour half of the wine first and then the blackcurrant and the rest of the wine.

Somerset Black Vermouth

40 ml Blackcurrant Liqueur

50 ml vermouth

Soda water

Pour the blackcurrant liqueur and vermouth in a high ball glass. Fill with ice and top with soda water. Garnish with orange peel.

Somerset Apple and Blackcurrant Mojito

Crushed ice

60ml of our Apple Eau de Vie

15 leaves of fresh mint

15 ml fresh lime juice

15 ml cane sugar syrup

A dash of blackcurrant liqueur

15ml soda water

Fill glass two thirds full of crushed ice. Add eau de vie, mint, lime juice, syrup and blackcurrant liqueur. Stir well. Add some more crushed ice and top with soda water. Garnish and serve.
